How to compress an image to Waaves format ?
Waaves compression is based on a quality index. Waaves quality index enables to tune the degradation
applied to your image and so that have automatically the best «Image quality / File size» ratio.
Waaves does not certify a file size but a visual quality. This feature enables to compress
image batch and be sure that all images will have the same visual quality at then end.

How to set Waaves quality index ?
Waaves quality index is the parameter that manages image visual quality.
As described below, the value of the parameter must be a positive integer.
The zero value compresses a file in a loss less mode (binary identity between
the original image and the decoded image).
The compression ratio increases with the quality index, this means that quality level 10 will give
a better quality and less compressed file than quality level 20. However, a file size with a quality
index of 20 will be larger than the one with a 10 quality index.

(Warning: this table only represents examples of the most used
values and may not be consistent for every images)
With the same Waaves quality index you will have different compression rate depending on :
| • |
the resolution of the original image ; |
| • |
the original image compression ratio ; |
|

Can use Waaves for lossless compression ?
Yes.
« 0 » Waaves quality index
(see How to set Waaves quality index?) compress images in lossless mode.
In that case the compressed image is certified a 100% identical to the original one.

What can of images can I compress ?
Waaves 2.5 manages the following image types :
| • |

| • |
Extended grayscale (from 10 to 16 bits per pixel or
from 512 up to 65536 gray levels) |
| • |
RGB color (24 bits per pixel or 16 Millions colors) |
| • |
CMYK color (32 bits per pixel) |
Waaves compression keeps original image parameters.

Can I use Waaves for video ?
Waaves has been optimized for still image compression. Waaves Professional version
processes animated sequences (set of still images) and can display a short movie stored as a
